What is IEMT?

Integral Eye Movement Therapy (IEMT) is a rapid change modality aimed at reducing intense negative emotional states. It involves recalling a negative event whilst the therapist prompts the client to move the eyes in specific directions.

Negative emotions are then reframed in a positive way and the client can move forward.

How does IEMT work?

IEMT works on negative emotional states (such as feeling angry or anxious) and identity imprints (e.g. ‘I am not good enough’) The recipient does not have to disclose the content of their memories, emotions or identity issues, but rather hold these in their mind for as long as their eyes get moved. Each set of eye movements lasts about 40 seconds. IEMT is a brief intervention with lasting effects.

How many sessions are needed to address my issue?

The basic set of treatments are two 2-hour sessions, it is advised to complete these. However, it may require less or more depending on the nature of the issue and the recipient.

Will it be necessary for me to disclose any personal details?

No, it will not be necessary to disclose the content of your personal experiences. This suits many people who’d rather not ‘open up old wounds’ because they find it too painful. The therapist provides protected space and time and guides the recipient in a compassionate, yet very structured way, working towards a resolution of their issue.

Is IEMT like counselling or Psychotherapy?

IEMT is not a talking therapy, it is a rapid change modality based in neuro-science. It works on key elements of your emotional make-up, on your underpinning background programme. The shifting of negative memories and feelings enables personal growth through a more positive outlook on life.

How can IEMT change the way I feel?

IEMT works on how your negative feelings were created, so called ‘emotional imprints’. Emotional imprinting occurs when a person lays down a new emotional response to an experience. This teaches the person how to feel about certain things.

For example, many of us, who where told off as children, will instantly be transported back to that feeling if the boss says that he'd "like a word" in his office.

Integral Eye Movement Therapy focuses on the interplay between these emotional imprints and eye movements.

It is empowering in that it helps to break through certain limiting patterns of thinking that are in the way of resolving an issue.
